What starts as design ideas & basic concepts in the planning drawings, follows the detailed information set out in the building regulations set.
At this stage everything is about how you put it all together, the junctions & details, materials & components.
Why are building regulations plans required?
Building regulations drawings, in conjunction with structural engineer’s details & calculations, will give everyone involved all the essential information required in order to construct the project to the latest building regulation standards. The contractor &/or subcontractors require this information to accurately quote for the works. The information provided is structured to help coordinate the project as best possible, potentially reducing time & costs.
What’s included in the Building Reg’s service?
The package covers construction methods, materials used, fire/sound/heating insulation requirements, damp-proofing requirements, energy conservation requirements etc. Also available is the ‘Additional Information Package’ which covers aspects such as electrical, lighting, heating etc. which would otherwise have to be discussed with your builder/electrician/fitter at a later point. This is not compulsory information for building control, but would help project coordination saving your builders the headache of planning everything beforehand.
